High memory Usage / B.S.O.D. on screensaver

Post by msirianno »

I'm back. Ok, here's where I'm at with YoWindow. When it runs for an extended period of time as a screensaver, like during the night, I *always* wake up to a B.S.O.D. Never had this problem prior to installing and running YoWindow as a screensaver. So, temporarily, I disabled YoWindow as my screensaver. B.S.O.D. is gone. Now, as a standalone application run during a windows session, YoWindow uses, typically, 90% or more of CPU and 100MB of memory. This is unacceptable.

I am willing to be a guinea pig (test case) for those responsible for the build and design of YoWindow. I like this software a lot, but these issues, in my honest opinion, are serious enough for me to unintall YoWindow.

Hi Mark,

I'm very sorry to see you keep having issues here.
And I'm also sorry that I can not be of any help to you.
But could you please explain to me what you mean by B.S.O.D.?

Thanks,
Hope Pasha can help you out.

The Blue Screen of Death, or BSOD, is the name for what is technically called a STOP message or STOP error. It's the blue, full screen error that often displays after a serious system crash.

That's right Mark...

Can you post the stop code and the info above and beneath the BSOD...

This will give us much more info on what exactly causes your system to crash...

If your pc reboots straight after this BSOD and there's not enough time for you to read the info then you need to unselect 'automatically reboot' in the Start-up and recovery settings which can be accessed if you right click 'This Computer'...Select properties...System Security...Advanced Tab...Start up and Recovery options...System Errors...(here you uncheck 'automatically restart computer'...

Remember to choose ok and or apply...every time you change an option...

When this is done properly the blue screen will stay on until you restart your pc by pressing the reset button or switch it off/on with the power button...

These directions can differ a bit depending on your operating system but you should be able to get there...(I'm running Windows7)...

Succes !!!

The blue screen did not reboot, however, I looked up the error and it referred to recently installed software. YoWindow had been the only software installed, and after disabling the YoWindow screensaver, and returning to my normal screensaver, no more blue screens. Actually, I now only run YoWindow when I want to see whats it's doing, the immediately exit the application. I am still investigating whether it is a YoWindow issue, or an issue with my computer. I don't give up too easily, and I continue to search for an answer...

There should be a more precise error code at the bottom of the BSOD...

If it's software related it should something like '.sys'...

Just reproduce the BSOD and give us the exact relevant errors...

OK. I'll set YoWindow back to my screensaver and see what I've got when I wake up in the morning...

Mike, thanks for letting us know about the memory problem.
It is usually referred by programmers as a "memory leak".
We will address this issue in YoWindow 3.0
Get YoWindow weather app for your phone or tablet.
