Hi Par,
I noticed that the default METAR station for Carson City, Nevada is KTRK (Truckee). Because of the mountains, Truckee and Carson City have significantly different climates. Truckee is near the summit and in the forest, while Carson City is lower in elevation on the east side of the mountains and in the desert. I think KRNO (Reno) would be a better match for Carson City.

I'm sorry right now it is very hard to change the system to pick not the closest METAR station for a place

Re: Change a METAR station
This not a problem for me, but it might look bad to a new user in Carson City if YoWindow shows a heavy snow storm that is occurring in Truckee when there's not a snow flake in sight outside his real window. Since situations like this could be a fairly common occurrence in mountainous areas, I'm going suggest adding "Make it easier to change default METAR stations" to your task list. (Assuming, of course, you haven't already done so.par wrote:I'm sorry right now it is very hard to change the system to pick not the closest METAR station for a place

Re: Change a METAR station
Hi.
Do you think it is necessary to make it as a (new) default ?
Do you have tried to use another (better) mettar and not the default.
I do think it will stay forever as you choose (if you do not push default button) so it is not necessary to change the behaviour of default metar.
Do you agree with me ?

I didn't make this suggestion for myself, my concern is for the first time user who hasn't yet learned that it is possible to change the METAR station under "Location Properties." If this first time user happens to live someplace like Carson City where the nearest METAR station is in a different climate, he might decide that YoWindow isn't very good, and stop using it, when it shows the snow storm at the METAR station while it's partly cloudy where he is. If Pavel had an easy way to change the default METAR station then needed changes could be reported like we do with season maps and locations. I believe this could reduce the chances of something like my example from occurring.

Hello ... I see.
You mean something like an error table where the information is going to be suplied and used as correction for the default metar ... I think it is very dificult to implement on this time but Par knows it for sure .
BUT REMENBER it will be usefull just from the second user forward if the first one report the error of the choosen metar. Supose the first one do not understand (or read) about the subject ? I think it is very hard to implement and it is not necessary as soon as we read the instructions.

Re: Change a METAR station
Actually no, an error table did not cross my mind. I just think it would be a good idea if Pavel had an easy way to change the default METAR station for a particular place. I don't know how he would go about making it easy or if it's even possible.JoseNeto wrote:Hello ... I see.

Yes this is a possibility, but it is also possible that an experienced user might find the error first and could report it to Pavel, then any future new users would never know there had been an error; thus avoiding possible confusion and/or annoyance.JoseNeto wrote:BUT REMENBER it will be usefull just from the second user forward if the first one report the error of the choosen metar.
