YoWindows and Windows update conflict

Post by Sacto2010 »

On 12/17/10 I installed a critical Windows update for IE8. Then also on 12/17/10 I installed YoWindows.

Ever since I installed YoWindows I continue to get a notification to install the SAME critical update for IE8 that I installed prior to installing YoWindows.

If I don't install it again and again and again my virus checker won't work.

So I thought I'd uninstall the critical update and received a warning that in doing so YoWindows won't work.

I don't want to uninstall YoWindows, because I really like the program. But, unless there is a fix for this frustrating glitch I may have no choice, other than continually reinstalling that update for IE8.

I want to mention that this only happens when I reboot.

Can anyone help....PLEASE?????

What critical update (KB) are you talking about ?

Which virusscanner ?

I don't think yowindow is the issue here...

I'm looking at some kind of infection...

Happy holidays...

Thank you for your quick reply, Wally. And Happy Holidays to you too!

Now to answer your questions:
The update is "Culmulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2416400)
If I knew how to update images I'd show all the times it supposedly "updated".

My antivirus program is ESET NOD32.

Hi, Wally@

KB2467659 was installed on Dec.14th. The same day as KB2416400 and YoWindows. However, I don't know in exactly what order.

You've been so nice and I really appreciate your help. But, apparently I have a glitch somewhere...between the four of them. Hopefully it will all work itself out. (sigh)

Thanks again,

KB2467659 must be installed afterwards to fix a problem introduced by KB2416400...

Try uninstalling both then manually download both of them and install in the given order...

Reboot everytime you install/uninstall either of them...

Wally@,

You're a genius!!!! So far so good!!!! Thank you so much!!!

After uninstalling and reinstalling those two updates that dang update notification DIDN'T pop up. Yeah!
However, my windows font changed. But, if I can't figure out how I can change it back I'll just live with it.

Thanks again,

Hi, Wally@

Re: Font - The font on my desktop, and other programs have changed somewhat. It seems to be the same font, but it's not as clear as it was before. I'll try fixing it with Clear Type.

Also, after the reinstalls all my icons moved from where I had them set before. No biggie as I've rearranged them to where they were.

But the GOOD NEWS is that I don't have the problem with that dang upate now. It was so annoying.
I'm so very grateful to you for helping me with that.
