At home i'm using a laptop too.
Without a mouse attached i use the pad and so i can't use the "mouse-wheel"-feature at all .
So the question of how to use "mouse-wheel-click" does not exist (for me) when using a laptop.
your original question was:
a suggestion for the mouse-wheel feature: when scrolling back and forth through the day(s), what about going back to live-mode by clicking the wheel?
And for this the easiest way is I told you: set your wheelmouse klick to "enter" ... and then you are happy
