Re: Sky Conditions Inaccurate

Pasha, the conditions that led me to post my first suspected error in YoWindow of sky conditions has repeated today.

As you can see under live conditions the mostly cloudy description in YoWindow does not look exactly like mostly cloudy it looks like partly cloudy as the icon indicates.

The Metar data that is uploaded in the form of an xml file is correct, but YoWindow is not interpreting the actual conditions correctly in my opinion.

I checked my Weather Display software and the sky icon for the sky condtions is correct with mostly cloud and some sun.

So it does appear that it is YoWindow that has the error or is misinterpreting the sky condtion data.

I found something else today with the sky condtions listed that it appears YoWindow goes by the sky icon and not the sky description and why I say that is when the sky icon looks partly cloudy YoWindows
screen is correct and when you have a solid cloud icon for mostly cloudy the sky in YoWindow also seems to be correct.

I will check my uploads to see if the sky data and description match and they do both times with the sky icon id in my xml file matching the sky description so that rules out an error in my upload.

:D Pasha, I did confirm that YoWindow is using the icon id uploaded in my xml file in determining the screen sky.

I changed the sky icon id and the screen changed in YoWindow irregardless of the sky descripion below it.

What puzzles me is why YoWindows live sky icon was not correct as my xml file did have the correct sky icon id for the description of Mostly Cloudy. The sky icon id for the two are numbers apart for Mostly Cloudy and Partly Cloudy.

I have only noticed the problem with mostly cloudy description and the partly cloudy sky icon on two occasions now.

It seems to me that YoWindow does have a confirmed error due to the fact that this same issue has happened more than once with the misreading of the data.

Just trying to help.

Mike, this all looks too hard for me to comprehend.

Can you state that this is Weather Display specific problem?
Is it true that the only problem is the incorrect sky description?
Which Weather Display script/template do you use?
In case you use Jim's script, have you altered it?
Please provide yowindow.xml along with the screenshot, this way it will be easy for me to understand what is going on.

Thanks!

Hi Pasha.

No, it appears that Weather Display is functioning correctly as the xml file has the correct data.
No, the worded sky description Mostly Cloudy has been correct for the current condtions it is the sky icon above it that has been incorrect giving a "Partly Cloudy" icon and intern YoWindow then displays sky condtions for Partly Cloudy and not Mostly Cloudy.
Weather Display by Brian Hamilton has in the setup a specific YoWindow xml upload that I use unaltered I had only edited it to see how YoWindow responded.
Any script provided is unaltered using Weather Display by Brian Hamilton.
I double checked and YoWindow only responds to the icon change in the xml file for sky conditions and not the worded description.
Quite simply YoWindow does display the correct sky conditions for the current live condtitions as long as it does not misinterpret the sky icon id in the xml file.
If you put "4" for the sky icon id in the xml file the sky is partly cloudy and if you put "13" for the sky icon id in the xml file you will have mostly cloudy.
Pasha, I will send you the xml file as your site would not accept the uploaded attachment also this xml matches the screen capture which is correct.

Pasha, I would like to demonstrate something and that is in the first screen capture everything is fine, now look at the xml file capture. Then in the second capture I changed the sky icon id in the xml file and now look at the YoWindow
screen capture.

This illustrates that if YoWindow misreads the data what can happen, but why this only occured with Mostly Cloudy I don't know as the icon id was correct for Mostly Cloudy.

This demonstrates that YoWindow uses the sky icon id number for determining what sky is displayed and not the sky description below it.

Mike,

What you are describing is how YoWindow is designed to work. The displayed weather is based totally on the icon. The weather description is simply used "as is" thus it can be in any language. If your description isn't matching the icon number, then that would be a WD issue.

If you find a tag that does better for you with the weather description, there's a template file provided that WD can be set to process. That is described in this post http://yowindow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=444.

Hi Jim, actually the description was always correct for the conditions it was that the icon that was not. But yet the xml file had the correct sky icon matching the description and that is the confusing part.

Just for my own satisfaction the next time this happens I will verify once more so in my own mind that what I already verfied was that it was not WD and that I am not crazy.

Sorry for taking up your time Pasha but I am sure what I already verfied was correct and will leave this as is as I am sure you have more than enough to work on already.
