Gimp and png-file

I have transfer my personal landscape without background made in Gimp2, but cannot save the file as a wanted *.png.
It is only possible to save in Gimp=extension, how can I convert the file to a *.png file?

When ready in Gimp...do not save your file...

But rather 'export'...then select file type by extension...

Scroll down to PNG image...
