Update on window open

Post by mancatnj »

This is odd..

I open the window by clicking on the tray icon... window appears with notice that its 'updating weather'... the observed time is indicated to be (sometime) ago... I click on the view menu, select update weather, the notice 'updating weather' appears and the observed time indicates (someothertime) ago... substantially removed from the first reported time..

So.. 2 updates within less than a minute of each other report substantially different times ago....

Hi Manfred,

Please give us the location you are having a problem with so we can study it.
If you are using a different METAR station than the default, please let us know the icao code.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Manfred,

YoWindow takes the current weather from METARS.
These are often situated at a nearby airport.

These METARS deliver their data generally in a 10-40 minute sequence.
It can therefor happen that you are looking at data that's 40 minutes 'old'.
If the METAR takes longer than 2 hours you'll get a 'Weather expired' message.

It can also happen that the METAR has already sent new data, but that this data has not yet arrived to your PC.
There has to be a usable time limit to save the YoWindow servers some time.
If this is the case and you choose to refresh the data by either using the menu or pressing F5 it can happen that your new data is from a more recent time than the data of the automatic update.

So, if the automatic update says your data is 30 minutes old and you press F5 it can be that you get new data of only 5 minutes old.

This is not a bug, it's the way YoWinow is designed.

I hope this answers your question.
Fred
