Hello and welcome to the forum.
Did you try to reset the color of the system tray icon to default? What happens then?

Re: Yo windows Display Problem
yes, I did reset to default colors but still had grey/negative night sky color.
I suspect the grey or negative night sky color might be some isolated windows environment issues. When the "Time Bar" was advanced manually ahead or back by 3hrs the night sky reverted to normal sky. "black with stars and moon".
The following day I tried to screen print the prior night sky. so I set "Time Bar" back to the point which the grey sky was first noticed. however, could not duplicate the grey sky in fact everything was completely normal.
So this may have been an isolated windows problem created temporally by some windows environment issues. such as; a program running in background or registry not entering info correctly. because if this was truly a program error then the problem would not suddenly stop or go away and I should be able to recreate the problem correct?
I'm thinking a reg entry was being blocked perhaps by firewall, antivirus or some other application running causing random issues. if it happens again I will Screen Print, Save Reg file and Post to Forum. I have used yo windows for a while on other systems and the program has always operated perfectly. most likely it was a random isolated issue related locally to my windows xp environment.
Thanks for the reply and many thanks to the author it's great program!

Re: Yo windows Display Problem
yes will repost although this time will be more aware of processes running within OS.
I am curious, What if my local NWS data is temporarily postponed could Yo window be displaying the grey sky in response to no data received? a little unusual that the grey sky was only during a 3hr time slot. also I could not reproduce the event to happen again in fact Yo windows seems very stable and running normal. thank you

Re: Yo windows Display Problem
Probably a very thick fog could be the case.
Re: Yo windows Display Problem
yes we did get some fog roll by my area. It's incredible the program could have picked up on fog then interrupted/displayed it as a grey/negative looking screen. Fog would be completely logical given the fact the grey only lasted about 3hrs.
Thinking there was a problem I did clear all cache and uninstall/reinstall yo windows. that could explain why I can't recreate the grey sky. maybe the next time this area gets fog all will be confirmed, although fog seems most likely the answer.
Excellent program lots of fun to use plus nice community many thanks to all!
