some one explain to me how this IS POSSIBLE

Post by newyearseve1971 »

(IN north america the sun RISE IN THE EAST AND SET IN THE WEST) BUT I NOTICE IN PLAYING WITH THE PROGRAM, any country "SOUTH" of the equator the sun rise in the WEST
AND SET IN THE EAST) I NEED some one to explain to me how this is possible

OK, I USED A SOCCER BALL AND A BRIGHT LIGHT DREW A RED LINE IN THE 'MIDDLE' (for the equator) but i am baffield as to 'how' is this possible

what i do see possible is (on top of the world) ,GREENLAND, <AT THE ARTIC CIRCLE> there is 'no sun set' that I see and 'understand'

and another though (if I was at the equator) LITTERALY-- (IN REAL LIFE) which way would i see the 'sun rise and set) not five miles from the equator in SOUTH AMERICA BUT 'on the line' since the sun rise in the 'WEST' @ SOUTH POLE AND 'EAST' @ NORTH POLE?

but with in the program (i played with it quite a bit) I notice the towns at the equator have 12 hour of day light ALL YEAR, THE CLOSER I MOVE TO THE POLES, the day light become 'shorter'

thank you for who ever reply :)

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to YoWindow.

Although I can understand you getting mixed up a bit, it's not exactly as you describe.
The sun rises from the East and sets in the West.
This goes for any place on Earth. Being it in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, or even at the equator.

What 'changes' as soon as you are in a location in the southern hemisphere is that you have to look to the north in order to see the sun.
You (and I) are used to look to the south to see the sun. When looking to the south the sun rises left from you and sets at the right.
When looking to the north it's exactly the opposite: the sun rises at the right and sets at the left. It may look like east and west have changed, but they haven't!
It has only to do with the direction you're looking at.

When you are exactly on a location at the equator you must not look to the south or the north but exactly above you!

I hope this explains how it works.
If you need more info on this I would suggest you Google on it.

Enjoy YoWindow.
You can learn a lot from it :)

Here are a couple of images I made to help illustrate what Fred said above.
The sun and moon rise and set in YoWindow as if you were looking out a 360 degree panoramic window.
