Weather Alerts
Weather Alerts
My opinion is that whenever YoWindow can find a reason for a weather alert, YoWindow should alarm that alert!
Re: Weather Alerts
There are currently hard for YoWindow to find a reason to give an alert,
since there are no limits defined.
But the idea is that every user could define limits for alerts of interest.
- max temp
- min temp
- min wind chill temp
- max wind speed
- max pressure
- min pressure
- max pressure change
- max 24 h precipitation
- intensive precipitation
- snow
the list could be longer but I guess you got my idea!
An example:
A gardener would perhaps like to be alerted if temp drops under zero!
Weather people defines there limits to find extremes.
One way for YoWindow to handle this idea is that whenever YoWindow finds that an Alert is detected,
either in current weather or in the forecast, an indication is shown. When the user clicks the indication,
text is displayed for detected alerts.

Re: Weather Alerts
Thanks, nice point.
Hard and long to implement, but I like it!
Guys, let's have a little brain storm!
I'm looking for the real world examples of this feature.
Who really needs weather alerts?
I mean REALLY NEEDS.
Not a "nice to have".
1. temperature falls below 0 within the next several days (A gardener. She wants to be alerted if the
She needs this to protect plants from dying.) (daddylito)
2. pressure changes (A weather pressure sensitive person. She needs to take a medicine before the pressure falls or rise)
3. first snow (for fun)
4. extreme temperature (feels like) change (don't forget to buy a warm coat)
5. extreme wind speed
6. thunderstorm/lightning alerts (Golfers, companies with sensitive technical equipment and boat-people do need)
Your idea?

Re: Weather Alerts
Hi Pasha!
How important an alert is varies from person to person!
1) A six year old child, (and me as well) surely would like to now that the forecast for tomorrow is reporting of the first snow for the fourth coming winter!
2) People going outside surely would like to know warnings of wind chill ("Feels like") and also for extreme wind speeds.
3) A lot of snow are affecting people that live on the countryside and have to travel to jobs, for child transportation etc.
Three small additional reasons from me,
but this is not any important matter!

Re: Weather Alerts
Golfers, companies with sensitive technical equipment and boat-people do need thunderstorm/lightning alerts!!!!
And so do of course all the scared and nervous.
-Me not included..
I just would like it for my own ego-fun.
I study data from many different sources in order to see patterns and compare them to reality. Some time in the future, when I'm good enough at this, the results of my funny little research may lead me right on to predicting/forecasting the next thunderstorm! Who knows ?
/Sky...is the limit!

Hi Sky!
I would like a lightning alert only for my personal economy!
Thunderstorms have destroy
- a refrigerator
- a dishing machine
- a computer modem
- a telephone
the last three years for me.
But that is not easy for Pasha to alert thunderstorms!
Love You!

Re: Weather Alerts
Speaking about lightening.
Have you heard Rainer story?
----
If you have not heard it yet, it happened last Friday afternoon at 5pm, I got struck by lightning while sitting in my office. It wasn't to bad, about twice as hard as a electric fence shock. On top of it all it blew all the electronics in the house incl. my computer. Also the electric fence and borehole pumps. Me and A...lex only got the borehole pump fixed on Monday evening late. To top it all of the frikkin geyser blew up on Saturday morning and flooded the whole house and all the carpets have started rotting. What a stench. That was not all. I also went a bit skidding on the wet carpet in the pessage and fell onto the atrium tiles and ended with a 5 inch gash on my arm. So far i've ony been able to fix the borehole pump, have a new geyser installed, got my Plotnet internet instalation completly replaced and was busy ripping the carpets out when the insurance guys stopped me. They first want to see the damage. Have got a new DSTV but looks like it blew the LNB's on the dish as well. Got a new computer but still can't get it going on my old disk. Still have to buy 2 new TV's and have the Home Theater Sytem fixed or replaced. Uderfloor heating amd garage door motor also got wacked. So was the 3kw backup UPS. And now the frikkin Eskom power is off as well ... WHEN IS THIS $H!T GOING TO STOP? Two weeks ago they stole 30 meters of the 3 phase underground cable in the street that's feeding my house. Luckily Eskom had that repaired late that afternoon. Now let's think what else can go wrong ... anybody willing to take a guess?
