Forecast as current weather

I want to suggest the possibility to select forecast weather (i.e. from yr.no)
as used for current weather (LIVE).

I understand that when YoWindow is started nearest forecast might be 6 hours later.
But when the YoWindow has been running for a while, YoWindow could save and display the forecast
as current weather.

At start while YoWindow lacks data it could display first forecast or perhaps much better, calculate
the current weather from trends in coming weather. (Backwards iteration)

I understand that most users live in populated places where there is no long distance
to nearest METAR. But for me and perhaps some others with 70 km to the METAR and mountains between,
the METAR weather data can sometimes be totally wrong.
In this forum all most everyone seems to own a PWS so this suggestion is of no ones interest!

This is no high priority task but could be implemented in steps.

step 1: Add the option; Handle weather from next forecast as current;
step 2: Save forecast to be used later as current;
step 3: Perform some calculation to determine current weather at start from forecast data

I think that's a good idea! - especially for people like you really far away from "nearest" METAR-station.

Yeah, good idea.
I have added it to our task list.

However, there is another good solution for your problem.
Take the current weather for you location from the closest PWS.

Of course, YoWindow should know somehow about this PWS.
1. Take the weather from the stations of YoWindow users.
con: we don't have enough users to make this really solution work
2. Take the weather from big weather services that aggregate PWS data like WeatherBug or WeatherUnderground.
con: we would have to pay money for the service

3. Take the weather from CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer Program)... http://www.wxqa.com/
con: Many PWS users are part of that organization

4. Similar to your first option - take the weather from PWS
con: We might not have enough users yet, but with the publicity in different forums, that number might quickly increase

Pasha, from what I have read in their online documentation, CWOP, which was started years ago by amateur radio operators, is mainly aimed at North America PWS (personal weather station) operators. It is a place where PWS upload their weather data. Then that data is processes and formatted into different file formats, one which is used to display each PWS online, one that is used by NOAA and one that can be downloaded and used on a PWS site.

I upload (but I do not download) the weather date from my PWS, but to do so, I had to register and get a CWOP ID number.

I could not find anything about downloads except a few files which change name every days and which contain data very similar (a quick look only) to the data provided by the METAR station.

Unfortunately, I could not find much more...
