i agree - i just wrote whats state-of-the-YoWindow ;-)
Me personally i would like to have what you described: YoWindow reflecting the real world as much as possible - including 3d-movement of clouds (ballons, horse millie, ...).

But YoWindow, as far as i understood, from the beginning should not be 100% realistic but should be fun for the observer (as if reality can't be fun enough  )

Beside that you have to know that Flash (in the version as used for the current releases) doesn't support 3d so everything in that direction is a compromise and a question of cpu-ressources when imitationg 3d (you probably noticed already that clouds stop moving when it rains).

I support that!

Hi Ikarus..
I took a photo of my house and currently trying to use photoshop ,to alter it so that i can import it into yowindow ,so yes i agree yo window is fun ,but it can also be accurate and realistic too :).Im not a programmer and don't understand how flash or these things work ,but having clouds move from top to bottom of the screen isn't true 3d is it? ,and perhaps with a bit of manipulation would look to all intents and purposes as 3d.That weather cockrel in your post is perfect :good: .An animated version of this would be a good idea (imo)

Hi Ellison,

We could probably go on forever, but I can't help myself here......
ellison wrote:If an animated weather vein (a cockerel for example)was used perhaps in the bottom right hand corner, then visually if the clouds moved from left to right ,then the head of the cockerel would also face right.
You're right. You could achieve this with an animated weather vein only, but then that would never reflect reality!
You will never see clouds moving from left to right AND a cockerel facing right as well in real life!
ellison wrote:If the clouds moved from right to left then the head of the cockerel would then face left.I really cant understand how something so simple is so hard to grasp.

Same thing here.

Besides all this, I hope you still enjoy YoWindow

Thanks,
Fred

How about instead of just arrows, wind is indecated by N, NE, E, SE. etc. Or even using the degrees of the compass i.e. 045, 090, 250, etc.

Hi Murray,

When you mouse-over on the wind arrow it's already there:

Hi elison. I agree with your point that it would be nice to see the clouds moving in the same direction as the wind (is blowing to). Perhaps an on-screen compass would be handy to remind you in which direction you're looking. I made a point on another topic that creating a landscape with a North facing view, and changing the 'Looking at...' option accordingly, makes that particular landscape correct, but changes all landscape orientations, so that South facing views are then wrong. Of course, this only really applies to landscapes made from photos of real places, where you want the view to be authentic. So what's needed is an option to set the view direction on each landscape (North or South)
A suggestion for the authors: Again, perhaps too much to ask, but could the cloud be made to move when it's raining/snowing? :Rose:

Actually ive just noticed that the airport landscape has the little red and white flag which alters direction depending on view, which is good.Something similar in the other landscapes would be good.Maybe a flag on the house in the village?.Now wouldnt it be really cool if you could also use your own country's flag as well?.Is that possible or feasible? or am i really in the realms of fantasy :Yahoo!:

Yes, the wind sock in Airport landscape is a good wind direction indicator when there's no cloud. But have you also noticed that when you change to North view, the Sun is still in the same place?

Hi Tim,

There has been some history on this option, but to keep it short, this is why it has been created:
YoWindow's picture is made to have a look at the side where the sun shines.
(They like to look at the bright side :) )

For people on the northern hemisphere that's the option 'Looking at the South (West wind blows from the right)
For people on the southern hemisphere that's the option 'Looking at the North (West wind blows from the left)

So, this is not an option meant to select when you have a landscape looking north and your living on the northern hemisphere.

I hope this clarifies the use of this option.

Thanks Fred. I can see your point about the hemispheres, that things are reversed South of the Equator :) . So now I'll use photos of scenes with a South facing perspective (e.g. for the UK) to create new landscapes, then they should be as realistic as you get!
