Wind direction arrows and cloud movement direction

Post by ellison »

Hello...
Is it possible that the wind direction arrows can be altered to reflect whether you are looking south rather than north?.I look south and the clouds move from right to left ,however the wind direction points left to right,Is there any way to alter this in future builds?
Thanks in advance

Hi Fred...
It doesn't really answer my question that i can see.I have set the option for "looking at the south (west wind blows from the right). That is how the clouds appear when I look out my window ,as the window faces south. However the wind arrows look as though the wind is now blowing from the left(east to west ).The wind arrows seem to be set for "looking at the north( west wind blows from the left). The clouds on the screen then actually move in the direction that the arrows are pointing. As it is on my screen ,the clouds are moving from right to left while the wind arrows point in the opposite direction.
thanks

Oke,

But you do consider the arrows are pointing to the direction where the wind blows from, do you?
I.e.: In your Screencapture on the left red arrow the wind blows from (about) North-North-West.
And the right red arrow (almost) points to North-West, so that's where the wind blows from.

Hi Ellison,
I agree with Fred and I'm afraid you compare apples and oranges ... your inspector shows the live-weather and your red arrow on left shows the forcast for the night.
Maybe this info ist helpful for your understanding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_direction ...

I already understand thank you but I think you miss my point.I'm talking about a purely visual anomaly that doesn't look right (to me anyway). If the cloud animations move from right to left ,then it stands to reason (for a purely visual reason) that the wind arrow should also be pointing that way (imo)
The wind arrow points the way the rain is falling

Well,

I can only repeat myself.
It DOES make sense as long as you understand that it points to where the wind comes FROM, which by the way is according to international agreements.
Of course I can understand it can be confusing, but I'm afraid that's just the way it is.

I'm sorry.

Hi Fred...
Perhaps I'm not quite explaining my self correctly. My original post is whether its possible to visually have the arrow point the same way the clouds/rain is moving?(there is an option after all to have the clouds move either way i.e west to east or east to west). If as you say there's nothing visually wrong with yo window ,then how come that you can have the clouds moving either from left to right or right to left but the wind arrow doesn't also change to reflect this?.If an animated weather vein (a cockerel for example)was used perhaps in the bottom right hand corner, then visually if the clouds moved from left to right ,then the head of the cockerel would also face right. If the clouds moved from right to left then the head of the cockerel would then face left.I really cant understand how something so simple is so hard to grasp.

It's right that visually there's nothing wrog with YoWindow.
Depending on what you set in the options you see moving clouds from "left to right" or vice versa.
But "strictly" speaking wind does not come from "left" or "right", it comes/blows from, let's say 270 degrees (west wind) or 123 degrees (east or east-south-east), so the wind-arrow(s) in the forecast/inspector is just another depiction of the degree the wind is blowing from. Instead of "Wind: 15 km/h ->" Pavel could have been implementing "Wind: 15 km/h 270".
The arrow is just an optical substitution of the numerical value of the degrees the wind is blowing from and not the direction "i am feeling the wind on my skin".

Hi Ikarus..
I know that wind strictly speaking doesn't blow left to right ,but if clouds move left or right ,then the wind arrow depictions should reflect that (imo). Its a matter of perspective. If I look out of my window southwards the clouds are moving from my right to left (west to east). If I turn 180% and look northwards out of my other window the clouds move from my left to right (its still west to east though). It looks odd to me that the animated clouds are moving in the opposite direction to what the wind arrow depicts (unless you choose the looking north perspective). It seems perhaps that I am the only one that this seems to annoy so ill leave it there and perhaps suggest an animated cockerel in the window somewhere that does actually point in the direction that the cloud animation moves.I'm not a programmer but I guess it would be possible to also animate the clouds to appear small on the horizon and gradually get bigger as they move towards you giving a south/north and north/south perspective too?Perhaps I ask too much.,but ideally i would like to position my lap top on the windowsill of my home ,and id like to see the cloud movements outside similar to the cloud animation movement in yo window. Not just the west /east perspective but also a north/south perspective of cloud movement. The wind arrow 9or animated cockerel) would then obviously reflect the cloud direction movement.
