hi i noticed on your airport landscape, that aircraft are landing and taking off ,in the other direction to the wind sock ,which seems to be blowing in the other direction. i am sure your are aware that aircraft always take off into wind for maxium lift i/e what ever direction the wind sock is blowing.ps great graphics by the way.cheers.

Hi Ron,
Welcome to the forum.
This has been mentioned before: http://site2.yowindow.com/forum/viewtop ... f=6&t=2989
I think the landing and taking off are fixed in a scenario.
This means all over the world we see the same planes landing and taking off.
As far as I know it's not possible to look at the local wind conditions to adjust this scenario.
Maybe Pasha can verify or explain how it works.
Thanks,
Fred

Re: airport landscape
Hey guys!
The reason is my ignorance
I was thinking that when there is a one runaway in the airport, then all the planes are taking off and landing in the same direction to avoid the risk of crashing to each other.
This is just my guess based on personal observations.
Am I right or am I wrong?
We can easily adjust planes take off/landing direction according to the wind, I just want to make sure we are doing this properly.

Re: airport landscape
Pasha,
You are right that the planes will all be landing and taking off in the same direction, but the runway used will be so they are going into the wind if there is one. If our runway is east/west (09/27) and we're looking towards the south, then when there is a wind from a westerly direction the planes should be going from left to right landing on runway 27. If the wind is calm, then normally one or the other of the runways is preferred for things like noise abatement.

Re: airport landscape
The wind direction factor is not as easy as it looks...

Re: airport landscape
Thanks, Jim and Wally.
We will consider this and probably make the planes take off and land to the wind from both sides.
Though in real life this is not happening, it seems to add more fun to YoWindow.
Do you agree?
What do you think?

Pasha,
I think the variety will be nice if it's not too much work, and more realistic if there's enough wind to activate the wind sock.

Re: airport landscape
I think that's a great idea and certainly more realistic.
