I want Help

Hi everybody
I do not respond to questions if
1) your not propose
2) describes the problem unclear.
3) if you do not want to reveal server information
it takes too much time to have to ask
So if you require help, provide all data first
It is also good idee if you take the time to search the forum and read answers.

Hi Herman,
You're right of course.
The only thing is: I'm afraid that (new) users won't read this post first.
It would be a good idea to have a 'READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING' post somewhere IMHO.
Although you never can tell if that post WOULD be read of course, we have at least tried to point out people what to do.
Pasha,
Do you agree?
And if so, could you make such a (locked) post?
I'm sure we are all willing to help you with it, if you like.
Thanks,
Fred

Hi Herman,
I completely agree with you. My very first question to users is - What Is Your Location?
Without specific information, we can not help them. But I also agree with Fred. How do you get the user to read the instruction informing them to supply all information?
Thank you for posting this topic.

If a user needs to read instructions first to let him know how to ask a question it's too late.
I think you can't educate anyone in/on a forum. Maybe such a user only begin thinking what went wrong if he doesn't get a single answer to a question.
Sounds pessimistic? What do you think?
Edit: let us wait for 24 hours after Hermans initial post if any other user than the mods are posting a reply...

Hi friends,
in my feeling it must be hundreds of years ago that my suggestion was to set a minimum request for new members ...
Some of you will remember of or PM's last August about this themes.
One of them was to confirm reading the FAQ's before registration will be confirmed ...
To give us 10 basic rules in this forum ...
We are talking and talking ... but nothing happens
I'm sorry to use such clear words!
Werner
P.S.: Herman, I take my hat off to you for the time and the patience you spent for this "topic"
http://yowindow.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 1&start=10
(and I think it was the reason for you to post this here)

I do not wish to interfere but I think it would a good idea to put some kind of 'Roadmap' or 'How to post' thread with clear
instructions on how to use this forum.
This topic could be made 'sticky' on top of the forum list.
Not everyone is as computer savvy as some of us are...with all due respect of course...

Hi friends
Thanks for the reactions.
Yes Werner the last problem was the reasons of this post.
I know this has already been discussed but "er moet nu maar eens spijkers met koppen geslagen worden" ( dutch saying)
I would suggest to make a new item within "Let's make Yowindow beter"
called 'READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING'
this item contains a few subitems
1) I want help
2) How can I translate ( item Reinhart)
3) What kind of software can I use.
This are examples. There are more.
On this items you can not give in response to
If someone does not meet the conditions you only need to refer to this point

Herman

Hi Wally,
Thanks for responding.
That's why we put up posts anyway, in order to get response
So it's by no way considered as interfering!
And you're absolutely right.
We can't all be experts.
I for one don't feel like one!
So I do hope that people keep asking and posting.
But I also hope they'll be as specific as they can and do some searching first
Fred
