Website-version: parameter for viewing direction

Hi Pavel!
would it be possible to add an extra parameter to the website-version of YoWindow to set the viewing direction?
It would be consistent to "normal" YoWindow, where you can determine if you are looking north or south to make the west-wind and rain coming from the left (when looking north) or from the right (when looking south).
maybe something like "view_dir=n" or "view_dir=s" or something similar.
Nothing urgent of course, but maybe you want to consider it for the future.

Yeah, thanks, I add it to our future tasks

This feature has to a certain degree been discussed and solved in "North and South problem with Yowindow picture."
But if you would like viewing to be at north, with true handling of sun, moon and wind direction, a new feature is needed.
But with a feature looking at north, you will (almost) never see the sun!

i'm aware of this (i would like to have YoWindow more real in this context) but as Pavel said in an answer
in another thread:
Par wrote:We did not want to make YoWindow absolutely real, we wanted to make it fun.
Because of this we want the user to enjoy the sun and the moon if possible.
And that's ok for me. It's his (their) program and i like it

Sure it's ok. But it is possible to change the view direction in the desktop app, and I think, the same should be possible with a parameter in the web app.
Or is there a parameter in between and I don't find it?

I don't know why anybody would want to play with these "look in" directions.
In the Northern Hemisphere people always look south and in the Southern
Hemisphere people always look north to find the sun or moon. Even the
houses are build to face south in the northern hemisphere and in the
southern hemisphere houses face north.
My suggestion is shelve this setting and determine the "look in" direction depending
on which part of the world you are in.
Pasha you do have the Lat/Lng for all the locations don't you?
PS:
(when looking north)
The Southern hemisphere moon is now showing the correct face but unfortunately
it now rises in the West and sets in the East.
Also here in the south our sun moves anti-clockwise across the sky. It currently
rises in the west and sets in the east.

You're right. Both can be done automatically by the position.

Some of this have been discussed before.
I live in the Northern Hemisphere and want to see Yowindow looking at south.
So I agree with you.
But weather maps are north oriented.
And the wind direction arrows that Yowindow currently uses are also north oriented,
so it is not that obvious that everyone likes your proposal!

I don't understand your argument. We're looking at a picture here which is either
a view to the south or the north (and not at a map that's north orientated).
If we're looking in a north or south direction then the clouds and rain movement
in the picture will be determined by the direction of the wind i.e. if you're
looking south and the wind blows from the east then the cloud/rain movement is
from left(E) to the right(W) on the screen and the sun/moon will rotate clockwise.
If you live in the southern hemisphere, and you're looking north, then all of the
above movement is reversed.
The above would also be true if you switch your view between north and south
irrespective of where you live.
I've however got a problem with the "ground wind" determining the movement of the
clouds accross the screen. Here by me the clouds ALWAYS arrive from the south-west
and therefore should always move from west to east in the picture. I'd like to see
a parameter for that in the widget too
(or am I getting carried away or asking too
much from Pavel).

i support Meerkats suggestion.
Why?
Because YoWindow (at the moment) tries to balance between reality and fun for the user (see
Pavels post where he said
We did not want to make YoWindow absolutely real, we wanted to make it fun.
Because of this we want the user to enjoy the sun and the moon if possible.
)
So, if sun (and moon) will always be visible (and i don't think this will change in the near future), one could say it is a logical step to determine the viewing direction based on the hemisphere the chosen location is in like Meerkat suggests.
