One works the other doesnt :-)

Post by qmix »

When i use the code from widgetbox it works, when I use the code provided from the yowindow.com site i get no weather and undetermined location :-)

What am I missing here hehe -

Works (but doesnt allow me to customize):
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.widgetserver.com/syndication ... pt><script type="text/javascript">if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget('c70f4278-5ebb-431c-b940-2703f1ce3377');</script><noscript>Get the <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/yowindow">YoWindow - Living Weather</a> widget and many other <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/">great free widgets</a> at <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com">Widgetbox</a>! Not seeing a widget? (<a href="http://docs.widgetbox.com/using-widgets ... get/">More info</a>)</noscript>

Doesnt work for me:
<div style="width:300px; height:250px;">
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://swf.yowindow.com/wimo/hpPal/hpPal.swf" width="300" height="250">
<param name="movie" value="http://swf.yowindow.com/wimo/hpPal/hpPal.swf"/>
<param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/>
<param name="wmode" value="opaque"/>
<param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"/>
<param name="flashvars"
value="location_id=gn:4256038&location_name=Columbus&time_format=12&unit_system=us&background=#FFFFFF&copyright_bar=false"
/>
<a href="http://yowindow.com?client=widget&link=stub"
style="width:300px;height:250px;display: block;text-indent: -50000px;font-size: 0px;-moz-background-clip:border;-moz-background-inline-policy:continuous;-moz-background-origin:padding;background:#DDF url(http://yowindow.com/img/logo.png) no-repeat scroll 50% 50%;"
>Weather software</a>
</object>
</div>
<div style="width: 300px; height: 15px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="float:left;"><a target="_top" href="http://yowindow.com?client=widget&link=copyright" style="color: #2fa900; text-decoration:none;" title="Weather screensavers">YoWindow.com</a></span>
<span style="float:right; color:#888888;">Forecast by&nbsp;<a href="http://www.weather.gov" style="color: #2fa900; text-decoration:none;">NWS</a></span>
</div>

Im embedding this as a text widget in wordpress :-) I understand about the "&" and tried removing those as well to no avail...
I am sure it is something I am missing.....

2nd part of question is can you post an example of what the PWL file should contain. I have scoured the website and files but am not sure about that files content other than the data source posted in the tutorial :-)
Thanks in advance - this is probably the finest weather widgets I have seen... if we could embed live radar in it from nws it would be the KING of weather widgets, undisputed hehe - thank you for taking the time to write such a good application.

Hi Tom,

I tried running your code with just adding <html><body> ............. </body></html> and it is working fine for me.

As far as your comment about radar, look at My Hiking and Bike Riding Weather. Click on one of my city and state selections. I have the widget and radar side by side.

Sorry that I could not help you with Wordpress.

BTW - I DID get this working - had to add the html/body tags in - still cant get the custom landscape to work yet but at least closer :-)
Thanks for the hint, I would not have thought would have needed those tags as an embedded code.

This is the exact code trying landscapes I cannot get to work - when I add in the ywl call it goes shows location as undefined

<html>
<body>
<div style="width:300px; height:250px;">
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://swf.yowindow.com/wimo/hpPal/hpPal.swf" width="300" height="250">
<param name="movie" value="http://swf.yowindow.com/wimo/hpPal/hpPal.swf"/>
<param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/>
<param name="flashvars" value="location_id=4256038 landscape=http://thebridgefrm.org/test.ywl"/>
<param name="wmode" value="opaque"/>
<param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"/>
<param name="flashvars"
value="location_id=gn:4256038 location_name=Columbus time_format=12 unit_system=us background=#FFFFFF copyright_bar=false"/>
<a href="http://yowindow.com?client=widget link=stub"
style="width:300px;height:250px;display: block;text-indent: -50000px;font-size: 0px;-moz-background-clip:border;-moz-background-inline-policy:continuous;-moz-background-origin:padding;background:#DDF url(http://yowindow.com/img/logo.png) no-repeat scroll 50% 50%;"
>Weather software</a>
</object>
</div>
<div style="width: 300px; height: 15px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="float:left;"><a target="_top" href="http://yowindow.com?client=widget link=copyright" style="color: #2fa900; text-decoration:none;" title="Weather screensavers">YoWindow.com</a></span>
<span style="float:right; color:#888888;">Forecast by<a href="http://www.weather.gov" style="color: #2fa900; text-decoration:none;">NWS</a></span>
</div>
</body>
</html>

Gotta be something simple I am missing but am thinking it is the contents of my pwl file isnt correct -

Hi Tom,

There are two ways for you to get the radar.

Look at My Hiking and Bike Riding Weather. Click on USA Region Maps and view my source code. I am using every available radar in that HTML.

Look at http://carterlake.org . Look down the side and you will find web template. All of the radars are listed in that HTML.

Have fun using these radars.

Hi Tom
landscape=http://thebridgefrm.org/test.ywl
must be
landscape=http://thebridgefm.org/test.ywl

The parameters must be divided by & symbol.
Example. <param name="flashvars" value="location_id=gn:5128581&time_format=12"/>

Change in the file crossdomain.xml
*.yowindow.com with *.*

In the forums you can read the why of this all
