Weather Widget, new parameter

Hey, friends!
Yesterday I have added one more parameter to the Widget - view_direction.

You may want to adjust the parameter to make YoWindow Widget look more similar to your window.

Here's the details.
----
name: view_direction
value: [0..360]

view_direction is the angle where the observer looks at (where your window faces).
0 - the user looks North
90 - the user looks East
180 - the user looks South

This parameter will only impact wind direction animation in YoWindow (clouds motion direction, where rain or snow fall to, and the grass is leaning to).

It does not affect the sun and the moon appearance and position.

Pay attention that YoWindow is a 2 dimensional program.
When the wind blows in your face, YoWindow will animate the grass and the clouds as though the wind blows from a side.
----

View Direction is an enhanced variant of YoWindow-desktop option Options/Advanced/Wind direction
I'm going to substitute "wind direction" with "view angle" in the desktop edition shortly.

I'm afraid that the description is too much long and is not much clear.
Please share your ideas how to make it shorter and better.

The parameter has been requested by many people, here's the request thread.

Oh, and I have almost forgotten to ask. Does it work for you? Do you like it?

180 - the user looks South
0 - the user looks West
Shouldn't North and South differ by 180 degrees so that
0 - looking west
90 - looking north
180 - looking east
270 - looking south

It works for me so that "view_direction=180" moves the clouds the same way the desktop-application does :)
And yes, i like it! 8-)

Hey Pasha,

it works fine! My favorit direction is south (270°) and the clouds moves in the same direction now I have on the PC.
So I agree with Reinhart.
Thank you!
Werner

Hi Pavel,
How about adding the "view_direction" to the "landscape.ywl" file instead (or as well) if possible.
After all that's where the "picture.swf" is being specified.
That way I can have multiple pictures looking in different directions.

Hey, thanks it works well for the rain and clouds.
However I was hoping for the sun to rise in the east when looking south ;)
Is that possible?

Reinhart, thanks, that was a mistake with South - 180, the correct value is 270 of course. I have corrected it.

Rainer, add view-direction to .ywl is a very nice suggestion I have added this to our task list.
My answer to your second suggestion is here

Why not the normally used degrees, which can be read directly from a compass or topografic map? The now used definition is very unusual.

I have a picture with a view direction of 215 degrees. I find it very confusing that it is in yowindow 305 degrees.

And another edit: This direction doesn't match with the wind direction given from a PWS.

Hey, Holly!
Sorry for the delay, too much pressure these days.

The definition I have used is a simple coordinates we have studied in school.
coordinates.jpg
coordinates.jpg (6.32 KiB) Viewed 13687 times
That was the only option I could make up.

I was not aware about additional points.
Please forgive my ignorance.
I absolutely with you.

Friends, I'm going to change the parameter meaning in a couple of days.
Let me know if you agree with me and Holli.
Holli, thank you for letting us know.

With the wind arrow you did it right. So I was a little bit surprised of the "new" kind of view direction.
