b120 Wind Sound

Hi Pasha,

I still have to adjust options.xml to hear the sounds.
I will test the sounds completely later.

I keyed amelie and fiesta. These worked.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire USA had a 96 mile per hour wind.
I heard a horse, a cow, and a rooster.
But I did not hear any wind.
A 96 mile per wind should have a sound.

In fact, a 96 mile per wind would have blown the horse, the cow, and the rooster into the next county or state.
When the wind is that strong, I don't think the animals should be outside.

Marty you made me lol :good:

We have not finished with sounds programming.
Wind is not available yet.
We want to add wind, but there is a problem - we were not able to find a decent sound samples of wind.

Fine-tuning the sound scheme to conditions that happen very rare is a challenge.
There are a lot of things to be programmed correctly.
Besides very few people will notice the work.
But I hope we will cover as many conditions as possible.
We need to hurry up with sounds to free time for mobile editions.
I don't know if we cover all cases.

I don't understand why you have to adjust options.xml manually since the maximum level of sound volume has been increased exactly 4 times in the previous build.
What level do you set it to?

Hi Pasha,

The horse, the cow, the rooster, and the fireworks were turned down after b114.
These are the sounds that cannot be heard unless I adjust options.xml.

The fireworks were perfect for everyone including me in b114.
The horse was too loud for Reinhart.
But I had to adjust options.xml to a '4' to hear the horse.
Now, I have to adjust options.xml to a '6' to hear the horse.

I am going to put more information for you in another topic.

Hi Pasha, hi Marty,

here the results of my check (Yowindow sound 50% and system sound 50%) without nothing changed on the .xml:

waves, firework, all animals, rain and airplanes are on a realistic sound level. When I like it a little bit louder, so I adjust it on the system speakers.
Only on the village landscape I can hear a undefined background sound.

My audio system is a Realtec High Defenition Audio device with 2 front speakers.

For wind (and other sounds) I found this site http://www.hoerspielbox.de/soundarchiv/index2b.htm (only type in "wind" or another search word). This sounds are free for use!

Hi Pasha and Werner,

I am not the only one having a problem with sounds.
Radar140 (Larry) also has a problem http://he1.yowindow.com/forum/viewtopic ... 307#p35392

My Win7 Toshiba Satellite L655 has the following speakers.

Hi Pasha and Werner,

I am not the only one having a problem with sounds.
Please read http://he1.yowindow.com/forum/viewtopic ... 228#p35180

On my ASUS WinXP, my speakers are Realtec High Definition Audio.

With RC b114, I had my ASUS set at '1' and I could hear the fireworks, horse, cow, and rooster.
With RC b120, I now have my ASUS set at '4' to be able to hear the fireworks, horse, cow, and rooster.

Thanks, Marty, we will try to solve this.
Do you watch movies on your Toshiba?

Werner, thanks for pointing to the sound site.
But, the whole website is in German, I cannot find the license information - we need explicit statement that the sounds are allowed for the use in commercial projects.

There are some rules regarding using their data. They can be found - in german - with the link: http://www.hoerspielbox.de/info/nutzrechthsp.htm.

There are several points under which point 7 is the one regarding commercial use:

Code: Select all

Bitte Nachricht an: "mailto AT berlin.heimat.de"
Short: commercial use is prohibited. For commercial use a separate written agreement is necessary for which you should contact the above e-mail address.

Maybe it's as simple as giving them credit in YoWindow like you do with the weather providers? I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Added: But I see there are several free sound sites such as http://www.soundjay.com/ or http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/index.html and I imagine you've looked through many of them.
