Yeah, we are having trouble with the weather server these days, too many users, I need to spend some time on optimization.
This is why you have had the time-out.

Facebook application is implemented in an old-fashioned way it does not load UI as an external SWF.
The fact that it displays the time-bar does not give any usefult information regarding the problem, unfortunately.
The same with mini-view of the widget - it displays User Interface in another way.

Can you open this SWF in browser? This is the User Interface that is not displayed on the widget.

Does the browser give you an error?

Rainer, can you see the fog from the chimney and the birds in the sky in the widget?

I can open that file without any errors ...it gives me a gray screen in Firefox.

I can see the smoke from the chimney and the clouds are moving.
The bushes are also moving, airplanes are flying but I can't see any birds.

Edit: I can see the birds now yes.

Have you done anything to fix the problem?

AAhhhhhhhhh everything works, except UI is not displayed to you.
There must be no difference between the way the birds are loaded and UI is loaded inside the widget.
I have no idea why it does not work
Everything the widget needs to display UI is loaded properly.

Hopefully I will investigate this problem deeply in a week, right now I'm too much busy.
