Re: stopped updating

Hello to All. Greetings and felicitations. Since I am here for help, I hesitate to say what I am about to, but feel I must. If you are on this forum, presumably you are here either to get help or to give help. Yancy's sins seemed innocuous enough to me. Some who responded, however, seem anything but. If you are here to help, why be unkind? Perhaps you are here only to be the smartest man in the room. If so, I hope that gives you all you wish it to provide you. I want you to be happy, too. Yancy and I may not be computer experts, but I'm sure we both know something you don't, and he seems the sort of fellow who wouldn't put you down for not knowing it. He seems rather nice to me. There, that's done.

I, too, have the same problem as Yancy. My weather has "expired" and will not update. I have the latest version of the software, am running it on Windows XP, and have followed all the instructions posted. I don't think my weather source is malfunctioning, because when I go online to Yowindow, I can view my current weather with no difficulty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I thank you sincerely in advance for your consideration.

Hi Adrian,

We moderators are here to help people out. But we also need to know what the problem is. In Yancey's case, he failed to let us know what the location was that he was having a problem with. Just by reading his posts, I got the feeling that he was shy. So I helped him out via Private Message and then I posted the solution to his problem on the forum once I had tracked everything down.

You are now doing the same thing that Yancey did. You have failed to let us know what location you are having a problem with. In Yancey's case, his Metar station had stopped functioning and we needed him to use another station until his was running again.

Please let me know the location or locations that you are having problems with so that we can test these out. Without that information, we cannot help you.

Waiting to hear from you.

Hi Marty. Thanks for the response. I guess we both kind of missed the point. Mine was that there was unnecessarily mean-spirited communication aimed at Yancy. It's just not called for. It isn't as though he were snarky at all.

I guess I missed your point about my location because I thought if I were able to get the information from the YoWindow website, that meant someone had to be reporting it, ergo, no outage. Obviously, I was incorrect. In answer to your request, I am in Lexington, KY 40507. Will that help?

Hi Donna,

I have tried both Lexington and Lexington-Fayette on my Windows XP. They are both functioning correctly.

I would like to have you check out your computer's clock. The time you see may be correct but if the time zone is incorrect then the time is wrong. Since you live in the same time zone as me, your time zone should be (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada). Also make sure there is a check mark for Automatically adjust clock for Daylight saving changes.

Please note that in about a week, the time zone will change due to Daylight Savings Time. But for right now, it should be GMT-05:00. If you have to correct your time zone, you will need to follow that up with correcting the time on the clock.

In most of the cases that I have looked at, once the computer time was corrected, the Weather Expired situation corrected itself.

Let me know if this works.

Marty
