Beaufort Scale

In Yowindow, the wind is measured in meters per second, kilometers per hour, knots etc.. depending on the chosen scale. When there is no wind, it seems CALM (Calmo in Italian).
Yowindow is a fun program for to spread the passion for meteorology, science and astronomy.
Since the data come from Yowindow METAR from YR.NO and many other stations PWS it is also a professional.

Why not show,(*) along with wind speed, the number on the Beaufort scale, (from 1 to 12) universally accepted by January 1, 1949, and the description of the wind (calm, light air, light breeze, gentle breeze, etc.).?
And why not add the name of the state of the sea ?
:)

Beaufort scale is supported in YoWindow.
You just need to select "Bft" as a wind-speed unit.

Sorry I did not understand :-(
What did you mean?

he means the sea conditions (Bft 0 = "flat", Bft 1 = "Ripples without crests", ..., Bft 12 = "Huge waves. Sea is completely white with foam and spray. Air is filled with driving spray, greatly reducing visibility.")

See Wikipedia article about Beaufort scale, fifth column.

Wikipedia is your friend (in that case at least for some languages ;) ): copy/paste would do it

Re: Beaufort Scale and Wind Direction

Yes, regarding the measure of the strength of the sea, I meant exactly what he said Ikarus1969.

With regard to the Beaufort scale, I confess that I did not realize that was already included in Yowindow (Yowindow never ceases to surprise.)
However, if the Beaufort scale was accompanied by a description (calm, light air, light breeze, etc..) and the speed of the wind ... would be complete ... and here we get into the theme of the topic English and Metric scale.

WIND DIRECTION

Image

In recent days, when I was wandering among the folders Yowindow to create the famous YWL file, I opened the folder containing the gif of the arrows showing the direction of the wind.

Why not combine these arrows also directions expressed by the letters and degrees?

example, wind from the west =arrow + W + 270 °
example, wind from the south = arrow + S + 180 °
example, wind from the north-east = arrow + NE + 45 °

etc..

When you move your mouse over the wind arrow in the inspector you will see the wind direction described with words.

Thanks for all your suggestions
I wish I have a time to fulfill them all...
