I've been invited to download and install release 147. Same as before my download stalls because of the presence of OpenCandy detected by eSet Nod32. I know it is a controversial topic but I do not expect to have third party s/w forced upon me, especially as I have purchased Yowindow.

This time, I am not going to try and circumvent the AV decision to abort the download. I am fed up with OpenCandy, its controversy and the fact that, as a paid customer, I don't have a special download location to reach and avoid this unwanted content to my PC.

Thanks - but I shall not upgrade and will probably uninstall Yowindows. I think software publishers should think closely about how they prepare their products for the market - by all means bundle unwanted stuff if you have to, but keep paid versions clean.

I'm sorry you encounter this.
May I ask you where you download your updates from?
I ask this since I'm also a registered user and have never seen anything from OpenCandy or any other third party software.

A forum user kindly sent me a PM and suggested I used the link top left within the forum for RC b147 but this, too, was aborted by eSet Nod32.

I received these reports on this RC b147:-

C:\Users\Roger\Desktop\yosetup_rc.exe.part Win32/OpenCandy potentially unsafe application unable to clean Event occurred on a file modified by the application: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe.

and

I agree with Fred...

Never had any OpenCandy issues (AVG Internet Security)

Besides...OpenCandy doesn't install anything on your pc unless you explicitly give permission...

A Google search on the matter will show that it is pretty harmless...

I still don't understand why you see this and I don't.
Right now I'm not at home, but on a hotspot giving me other limitations on downloading, so I can't check it now.

The only thing I can think of and 'offer' you is to try a direct download:

Thanks everyone - I tried your link Fred and I get the same situation with Nod32 preventing the download. I'll do a complete uninstall etc and see what happens. I can't believe it is a false positive because there surely must be something in the download file/s to trigger Nod32 kicking in. I'll report back.

OK - I uninstalled Yowindow; cleaned files away with Ace Utilities and CCleaner, rebooted, recleaned again and then went to the RC b147 link at the top left. Part way through the download, it aborted with the same two messages that you see above. I just have to assume there is something in the downloads that trigger Nod32.

I do trust Nod32 and am reluctant to override the report. Any other thoughts welcome!

OpenCandy plugin is harmless.
As Wally pointed out it can install third party software along with YoWindow.
This is what Nod32 does not like.
Nod32 is the only antivirus that blocks software with OC.
It's up to you to decide whether or not trust Nod32.
But I give you my word there are no danger in Open Candy.

We use OC solution to earn money that we use to invest in YoWindow development.

Thank you Par. I guess I shall have to give up on supporting yowindow. Whatever, I am not prepared to possibly compromise my system and go against the recommendations of my AV vendor. That is exactly the reason I have it installed. BUT, the main issue here, is the fact that I am a fully paid up customer of this software and I do not believe I should be expected to have to circumnavigate my AV to install something that is not clean of this additional unwanted software. At the very least, I think you should be quite able to offer a download site for registered customers that offers a product free from OpenCandy.

I have supported you. Those choosing only to accept the free product can make that choice to accept a download containing OpenCandy, or not. I should not have to make that choice after making my purchase.
