Hey, Geof!
I see that all the dates in the season maps begin on the first date.
This is suspicious.
Can you explain why do you think the seasons start at these dates?

We need to pick season change dates as close as possible to the real nature changes.

The second important thing.
Season map dates are formatted as MM.DD, month first, then date after the dot.
So the 12 of May is 5.12
Please follow this convention.

Only the Australian Alps have a winter season instead of a naked season. The rest of Australia does not normally have snow which lasts for more than a few hours on the ground.

OK, thanks for fixing the date format.
By the way, in Russia where I'm from we also use DD.MM :)

But, why did not you answer to my first question?

The offical seasons in Australiua are:

Summer 1 st December (12.01)
Autumn 1 st March (03.01)
Winter/Naked 1st June (06.01)
Spring 1st September (09.01)

They all begin on the 1st of the month , summer - December (12.01) Autumn - (03.01) Naked or Winter depending on location and spring (09.01)

The Australian Bureua of Metorology (www.bom.gov.au) has decided that the dates ar the offical start of the seasons, that is why.

Melbourne season in Yowindow used to work and in fact changed from Summer to Autumn on 1st March this yeara. About the time of Yowindow version 3 the seasons for Melbourne changed to 01.01/summer from that which I have requested. All locations in Australia in the South should have the 4 seasons summer, Autumn, Naked (winter) and spring, excpet to the troipical north which has a dry season and a wet season and very hot all year. Only the Australian ALPs (mountains) have snow and can use winter. Our ski season officially starts on 1st June (06.01) and ends on 1 st September (09.01). It is now only March and we had snow this last Friday and the ski season has started 6 - 10 weeks early in the mountains nearby. But the snow will not last and will be melted by Monday or Tuesday. Sandy Point and Melbourne are 100 to 200 Km apart and very close to each other. I live in Melbourne and have a beach house at Sandy Point with a PWS.

Hope this answers your questions.

Geoff

Hope this explains why.

Thanks

Sorry Geoff.
I have given you a bad explanation of what I want to know.
These are the questions I want you to answer.
1. When do the first leaves appear on the trees?
2. When the tree leaves color gets yellow usually?
3. When trees lose foilage usually?

Surpringly enough they match the dates.

Leaves start turning yellow first week of March. therefore 03.01 on average

Trees are completely bare first week of June, therefore 06.01on average

First new leaves appear 1st week of September, therefore 09.01 on average

Summer heat starts 1st week of December, therefore 12.01 on average

I am sure this is why the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has chosen those dates for the seasons. They seem to fit well and are realistic most years.

Thanks

Geoff
