Rain or not? User reports to improve weather accuracy.
The weather accuracy is the most important thing in a weather app.
No matter how beautiful and fun the app is.
We have an idea how to make weather reporting better.
Namely rain detection.
Imagine it's cloudy in YoWindow, but raining outside.
Let the user fix this.
She taps "Report rain" button.
YoWindow instantly corrects the weather.
It's raining now in the user's YoWindow.
But it's not the end of the story.
The rain report is sent to YoWindow server.
Around this time many people may report the rain in the area.
Then we can safely broadcast it's raining to the rest of YoWindow users there.
The users are becoming little weather stations reporting whether it's raining or not.
This is an experiment.
The first time we are collecting weather data ourselves.
We have no idea if this thing to work out.
But there's hope it will.
Let's check it out!

I think the expert can answer this question properly. If we follow the weather report then we can find actual news.

Make sure that it's GPS based report and not from a station (eg: metar), otherwise you may have inaccurate data from users for instance in a city that mainly use a metar station while they are miles away from each other. Rainy in an area, cloudy or even sunny elsewhere.
It's also to users to report responsibly, reducing discrepancies between all of them located in a narrowed area
I guess it's obviously short-term meantime finding/improving weather sources accuracy, if these report can help your AI then why not. As you said it's an experiment so let's see what will come out.

Hi, Josh!
Sure we though about all the problems of user generated content in advance.
People are people.
They make mistakes, they may lie and they may be irresponsible.
But I think most people want to improve the world around them.
That's why we hope the experiment to work out.
Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for the update and quick reply. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this thread. Looking for the same issue.
