Backing up locations
Backing up locations
How does one back up the locations list? I have 240 saved so I don't want to lose them (I already screenshotted all of them but adding them back manually is time consuming), so is there a way to save a second copy of the locations list elsewhere and paste the file back in when needed? Thanks!
Re: Backing up locations
I'm guessing you're using some Windows version as OS...
YoWindow settings are kept in options.xml file that you should find at the following locations...
-Vista or Windows 7
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\YoWindow
-XP
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\YoWindow
Replace [your user name] with your Windows login (user) name...
You may wanna change your folder options to show hidden files and folders in case you have troubles locating the options.xml file...

Re: Backing up locations
Thanks Wally! I was having trouble finding it, it might be the hidden folders thing, I have Windows XP
Re: Backing up locations
Glad to hear you sorted it out...
Back it up regularly and your YoWindow should be tornado proof...

Re: Backing up locations
Wally, I made two back ups of each file, and I made the copies "read only". My other question is that I found a second XML file called Cache, what does that do? I also made copies of that file and made them read only too.
Re: Backing up locations
A cached xml file is a temporary reference file build for quicker access...
What's in the file is determined by the program that uses it...
It will be created each time you start the program...
Nothing to be concerned about...

Re: Backing up locations
Thanks. I have 305 locations saved! If I want to quickly add all those locations to another installation of Yowindow can I just copy that Options.XML file from one machine to the other? The first machine is a Win XP machine and the second machine is a Win 7 laptop. Should I also copy the other .XML?
The XP machine does fine but the Win 7 laptop has problems updating the locations' conditions. Should I delete and reinstall there and then copy over the two XML files?

Re: Backing up locations
My computer is using WIN XP. Can I install?

Sorry for the break in...
Last time I checked on my pc running a dual boot XP and Win7
YoWindow was running fine on both systems...
Though for security reasons and Windows XP support being discontinued we suggest you upgrade
to a supported operating system...

Re: Backing up locations
Should be no problem...Though they would be in a somewhat different location...hypernova wrote:Thanks. I have 305 locations saved! Re: Backing up locations
XP is a supported operating system. I have XP, 7 and 10 on different systems and XP works just fine. There are no "security" issues, I don't use any other MS product (not their browser or anything else) and I use Comodo Internet Security. XP is just a shell and I find it in many ways superior to 7 and 10 that I've installed on other systems.maryhaugen wrote:My computer is using WIN XP. Can I install?

Just because MS wanted to do a money grab doesn't mean we have to fall for it, I use third party security (and other software, like dual panel software, browsers, etc.) that is far superior to anything MS has to offer.
