maidencastle is a reasonable translation.
The name is from a legend where a King heard from his fortune teller that his beautiful daughter would die soon by a snake bite. To prevent this he locked his daughter in a isolated castle. Unfortunate the snake was hidden in a basket with food for this poor lady.
Not a happy end but the castle is still here.
