This conversation really needs to be in offtopic. But since I am reading a lot of comments about growing older, I would like to put in a few words.

In my 20s, I was getting speeding tickets driving my go-fast toys up and down the interstate system of the USA and Canada along with partying all hours of the night. How I survived my 20s is beyond me!

It wasn't until I turned 38 that I took up sports. I flat water kayak. I weight lift and 3 years in row went out for competition and placed 1st place, 2nd place, and 1st place. I then took up whitewater rafting which evolved into whitewater kayaking. I did that for 11 years straight until I kept watching people rock climb the cliffs while I was running whitewater. I then took up rock climbing for 5 years straight until we had a year that did nothing but rain. You cannot rock climb unless the sandstone is dry. That was the year that my carbon fiber Trek and I started riding the road.

I am 7 years into road cycling. I ride all year long to stay in condition for the first metric century of the year at the end of April. I then work up to century rides during the summer. And after all of my rides, rock climbing, and whitewater, I have to take my dog hiking.

The 40s, 50s, and 60s are the best time of your life. The only reason that there is a concentration problem is there are more things going on in your life now than in your 20s.

But may i ask: do you have a family who supports you with all your activities? Or did you find a hole in time so that your day consists of more than 24 hours?

I no longer have a family. I was a COBOL computer programmer for 30 years. My boss would send me out kayaking when he realized how much work he had loaded me down with. I started weight lifting and running whitewater to get rid of the stress. I was the only computer programmer that the company had. And then downsizing and outsourcing started. So I am back in school learning PC programming now.

But yes, you could say I found a hole in time allowing me to completely get rid of my stress and to start rock climbing and get into serious road cycling. The only family member that makes demands on me is my dog "Rascal". Believe me, he lets it be known in no uncertain terms that he is to be taken for a hike.

But believe me 40s, 50s, and 60s are the best time of your life as you finally know who you are.

I started as a COBOL programmer 15 years ago for an austrian bank. 2 years ago i quit my job and started working for a small company who makes the software for the book-clubs of the Bertelsmann-group. The focus shifted from "only-cobol-and-nothing-else" on a ibm-mainframe to cobol.net with Visual-Studio.
