Chrome: Seaside

Post by par »

One more crazy week, I'm exhausted, but I'm happy we are moving forward with YoWindow 3.

What's new?
- Seaside landscape!
- You can assign landscapes (2 so far) to locations

Pay attention that I have made some small corrections that seem to make Seaside to look a little better.
You may find subtle differences - for example the number of boats when you open the landscape.
And I hope the regatta error has gone away now.

I like the way locations are switched now when you select them with arrow keys.
And I hope you do too ;)
First - fade to white.
Then you see the name and temperature of locations you scroll through.
And finally smooth fade in when a location is chosen.

This part of work was quite complicated. I expect you to find some bugs.
As usual your reports are very welcome.
I hope we will fix them soon and 0.6 will be ready for release.

Hi Pasha,

I have only tested Chrome Seaside on my WinXP for now. These are my comments after viewing Chrome Seaside on my WinXP.
WinXP Desktop - Contrast of mountains is Perfect!!

On the Desktop, you can follow the mountains off into the distance as they fade the farther away they are. I like that contrast. Also, the lighthouse stands out.
WinXP Chrome - No contrast of mountains and lighthouse gets lost!!

On Chrome, the colors are brilliant but the contrast needs to be worked on. The lighthouse is lost in the brilliant colors. Also, the lighthouse does not seem to be working at night. I did try out Fiesta and the balloons were okay.

While you fine tune Seaside, I will do some more testing!!

Great job so far. :good:

Marty, hi!

The Chrome screenshot show that there was an internal error inside YoWindow.
In my Chrome the mountains and the lighthouse look exactly like in the desktop edition.
Do you always see the problem with the mountains?

Thank you!

Hi Pasha,

I was able to get YoWindow Chrome to show mountains of no contrast with missing lighthouse light on both WinXPs and my Win7.

Add a location that is in night time right now. Set this location as Seaside.

Now click onto Chrome extension and you will be at Home Location. If you go to the far right and click on arrow for Drop Down and then select the location you just added you will see the lighthouse light operating. Click on a forecast day and you will see mountains as they appear on the Desktop. Everything looks okay. Now exit from Chrome.

Now click onto Chrome extension and you will be at Home Location. If you use the down arrow key on the keypad and keep using it until you get to the location you just added you will see a lighthouse that is not operating. Click on a forecast day and you will see mountains of no contrast. You may even be so lucky as to see a black speed boat and sail boats with black sails.

Right now, you need to track down what is going on with the down arrow key on the keypad.

Good Luck

Hi Pasha,

There is a saying in the USA that things get worse before they get better. So your next set of changes, Seaside should get better.

After testing on WinXP and Win7, this is what I have found.

If all locations are set with Village as the landscape, you can select locations or scroll up and down to locations and everything works. :)

Now set one location as Seaside. It was Noon here, so I added Sydney, Australia as my last location and set it as Seaside.

I used the Selection Arrow on the far right for Drop Down and selected Sydney. Everything was okay. I continued selecting always going back to Sydney. For example, start at Home, select Sydney, select Home, select Sydney, select Eureka, and select Sydney. Somewhere around the 5th or 6th selection, Seaside becomes a bad landscape with mountains of no contrast and black sailboats. Once it becomes a bad landscape, select another location. Seaside has become a Sticky Landscape and is showing on all locations. It is showing on those locations with a missing sky or a missing sea.

If you use the Down Arrow key on the keyboard, once you encounter a bad seaside landscape it becomes a Sticky Landscape. Use the Up Arrow key to return to the previous locations and you will see Seaside with missing sky or missing sea.

Hopefully, the next set of changes keep Village working perfectly and has Seaside working perfectly also. :)

Hi, Marty!
Frankly speaking it was a nightmare to fix all the problems I have found since I've published the last build.
But now they seem to be fixed and now I need you to find some more.
That's why there was no new builds for so long.

Please check the new 0.52

Hi Pasha,

My WinXPs are scanning so I have only been able to test on my Win7.

I have selected and scrolled. I am not able to find any mountains of no contrast. Seaside landscape is acting like the desktop. I will test with my WinXPs later. But for now, Seaside is acting the way it should.

Great job :good:
