Language on YoWindow main site

Post by ikarus1969 »

The first thing i saw was a wrong translated page and though "who the hell has translated THAT?".
Second thing i saw was the google-translate box on top - "ahh, ok. Now i know..."

The first time reading the main page in my language it's funny, the second time it's becoming annoying.
Because i don't have the possibility to switch back to the original language (english).

Please let the first thing a visitor sees the first time is the correct site in english and the second thing the google translation-box on top.

Is that something that don't bother anybody? Then forget my post!
What do other visitors think?

I'm aware google-translate is the cheapest, easiest and the only maintenance-free way to provide a translated website;
But the results are very bad. It's only possible to get the overall meaning- but nothing more; and that's imho too little.

Hey, Reinhart!

I cannot repeat the problem.
Google Translate is supposed to display original English text by default.
This is how I have set it up.
I wish I knew why you are presented with Austrian German text when you are opening yowinow.com for the first time.
Is it the same on all the browsers you are using?

Please let me know if the language of the interface of your browser(s) is English or Austrian German?

There is an option to go back to original language - English.

See "Show original" button.

At the moment we are working on human translation of yowindow.com.
This is in early stage.
I have asked several members on our community to translate a couple of pages to make sure the translation process is smooth and we are ready to open it for the wide public.
Unfortunately, there is no Austrian-German language in Pootle system we are using.
I'm going to ask the developers of Pootle to add it.
But right now I'm very busy with current YoWindow workflow.

Please try to find out why Google Translate is always displaying yowindow.com in Austrian German.

In case people on the board think that Google Translate is not a necessary feature on yowindow.com I will remove it.

Hi Guys,

I just want to add how it appears for me (Win XP, IE8).

It starts up in English.
I'm able to choose Deutsch or Russian.

Edit: Only on the main page.
The other pages give me a selection menu with many languages.
Some of the pages, including the main one however appear a bit funny, not normal, at the moment (left alligned).
Tried clearing browser cache, without succes.

That's it!

At the moment i think it has something to do with my click on an option "Don't display for english" some weeks ago when google-translation was introduced to the forum.
So now i don't see the google-bar on top of the yowindow-site anymore (and don't have the possibility to see the original version of the page).
Maybe that's the reason why i am presented the german version and don't get the option to switch back to english.

Question: are the provided languages in the "Select language"-box hardcoded or provided by google? If hardcoded, would it be possible to add english as a language?

After the dust has settled, I think it is an inferior problem (if any). :crazy:

This is the code the google-translate component is added to every page of yowindow.com.
In case your browser language is English google-translate is not displayed on some pages.
-front page
-download page
-widget
-online

Everything is automated.

<div id="google_translate_element"></div><script>
function googleTranslateElementInit() {
new google.translate.TranslateElement({
pageLanguage: 'en',
autoDisplay: false,
gaTrack: true,
gaId: 'UA-465329-2',
layout: google.translate.TranslateElement.InlineLayout.SIMPLE
}, 'google_translate_element');
}
</script><script src="//translate.google.com/translate_a/element.js?cb=googleTranslateElementInit"></script>

Hi friends,

yesterday it was a problem with the site in IE (left alligned). Pasha has fixed it.
When you open yowindow in a German browser, the site starts in English and you can choose Russian or German.

To explain: Pasha STARTS with the translation in nativ languages. So it will be need a lot of work and time to do this.
The German site looks up to now a little bit funny :wink: because the German language is in most cases longer than English.
So friends be patient and at least we will have some :beer: together ...

Thanks for explaining Werner!

The left alligned issue is solved indeed, thanks Pasha.
