Doing research- need locations added

Post by hypernova » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:49 pm

Hi all, I am doing research into the climate and weather trends of both the coldest and warmest places in the world.

I would appreciate it if the following locations were added

Coldest

Vostok, Antarctica (research station) - it is listed in Yowinter but no temperature data is displayed. ICAO code AT28

Dome C (Concordia station), Antarctica - also listed but no temp data displayed. ICAO code AT03

Dome A (Argus), Antarctica

Ojmjakon, Russia - ICAO code UEMJ

Hi Alex,

I already did this research years ago.
The majority of locations that you have listed are already on YoWindow database.

I had a website that showed the cold, hot, wet, and dry locations.
I had web pages for most of what you have listed.

Vostok has a personal weather station instead of a METAR station.
So I used the closest station to it for the temperature.

Oymyakon is using the closest METAR station to it already.
Oymyakon has a personal weather station.

You should be able to add these to YoWindow by just entering the town name.
And then look at the list.

Have fun.

Thank you Marty! I did find most of the locations, the only thing is that the Antarctica locations (Vostok and Dome C) are not reporting temperatures. I checked weather underground and they aren't reporting there either. I wonder what is wrong? Dome A now has an automated research station and it was on weather underground but it too has disappeared from there. I wonder what happened? I had it on a weather program called Weather Exchange, which has been discontinued and can no longer access Weather Underground data.

Do you still have your weather records site? Can I have a look at it? I would like to add the snowiest and wettest locations to Yowindow.

This should be in the features request section but I was wondering if it will ever be possible to list all saved locations in Yowindow with weather data simultaneously, in table format. And perhaps the ability to automatically save the data from each location into a spreadsheet file perhaps?

Hi Alex,

I will check one of my computers for the web pages that you are interested in.
The site that I had was a free site and I had too may visitors so the free site was shut down.
But I still have all of the web pages.

Along with the snowiest, how about the windiest?

Mount Washington is a research station at the top of a mountain in New Hampshire.
Every 3 days they have hurricane force winds.
So just enter 'Mount Washington' and look for Coos County in New Hampshire.

Alert is the farthest north METAR station. (Nunavut Canada or NWT Canada)
But Alert is not always transmitting.
There is another METAR station a little south of Alert that transmits 21 hours a day. (Eureka NWT Canada)

Also look up Amundsen Scott South Pole station.
There is magnetic South Pole and actual South Pole.
Amundsen Scott and Vostok are the 2 South Poles.

Have fun with Mount Washington.

Thanks, I have Mt Washington and the South Pole Station now, hopefully you can help add Dome A and the Vostok page I linked in the last post.

Other question I wanted to ask is how do I add a PWS? This is the one I want to add:

https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/fi ... :KNYVALLE1

https://www.wunderground.com/personal-w ... =KNYVALLE1

It's called KNYVALLEY1 on wunderground.
