Dropped features

Post by par »

While working on YoWindow 3 we have decided to drop some features that belong to YoWindow 2.0.

Why?
1. We don't think these features are vital for the project.
Most people don't use them.
Less features - simple program.
And simple is good.

2. We want to release YoWindow 3 fast.
Implementing these features for YoWindow 3 will take significant time.
I think you will agree that it's better to spend time on important new features other than unnecessary old ones.

OK, so here is the list of the features we are going to drop in YoWindow 3.
This is not a final list, we may reconsider feature drops or add some new features to drop.
  • landscape Options dialog
There will be no way to stop animation in Village landscape to pump up the performance. Sorry.
  • Full-screen custom resolution support
No way to customize YoWindow screen resolution in full-screen.
  • Show forecast when the weather is expired
  • Forecast Panel: Today tile is removed. The first tile is not Tomorrow.
  • Forecast Panel: no control over temperature and sky-icon visibility.
  • No way to turn weather auto-update off.
    Weather is always auto-updated.

Any chance of putting the weather "Today" feature back? - don't like scrolling through the day to see what the weather is going to be. Also don't like the next day being the first one in the pane - rather see today. I have often clicked on to tomorrow's weather by mistake. Other than that - great program.
Thanks

Hello, Huw!
I really worried about whether we have made the right choice by removing Today tile.
But so far I don't understand why the current presentation is bad.

I don't understand why do you need to scroll time to see today's temperature?
It is already displayed on the Time Bar.

The current presentation isn't bad, but I liked seeing the weather forecast for the current day in a visible format. Perhaps I've got this wrong but I have to move on ahead in time to see the forecast for the current day?

Take a look at this screen capture.

At the top you see the Time Bar.
It shows how the weather is going to change over today.
See, it is +26 around 15:00
The same information was displayed on Today tile in YoWindow 2.0

You don't need to touch the mouse.

So now Today tile would duplicate the information.

What would the weather be at 21:00 - still partly cloudy, or clear? Can't tell from the timeline?

Still partly cloudy.
Weather pictures on the Time Bar are displayed at the moment the weather is changing.

:)

Exactly!
It was even hard for myself to get used to the new Forecast Panel look.
But now it looks and works natural.
