Today we have released a huge update to METAR weather tracking in YoWindow.
NOTE: At the moment this update is only available in YoWindow for Windows and Mac.
We will release it for other platforms as soon as we are confident in the quality.
So what's new?
1. Automatic switch between METAR stations.
If some weather station doesn't work in the night or on the weekend we used to black-list it forever.
YoWindow was reporting from the next METAR that could be hundred miles away.
Now when some METAR station "A" stops reporting, YoWindow automatically switches to the next available at the moment "B".
YoWindow is watching for "A" activity and switches back as soon as "A" becomes online again.
2. Measure weather closer to your place.
Some METAR stations are reporting a limited amount of data.
It may be just temperature and wind speed.
These stations are usually automatic METARS.
They were also blacklisted for the past 5 years in YoWindow.
Now missing parameters are added to incomplete METAR "A" from the next available METAR "B".
Eventually the temperature, wind speed and pressure are measured closer to the user, than it used to be.
3. YoWindow METAR data-base has been upgraded since a long time ago.
Here's the fresh list of METAR stations available in YoWindow.

In some countries we fall back to Open Weather Map if location is extremely far away from the closest METAR station.
We expect to eliminate "weather expired" errors with this update.
So if you found a location with "weather expired" warning, please let me know.
Big thanks to our friend Askar for the help with programming these feature.

Is this new version b13? I see on main page version 4 , but that is the version I have.
Just a bit confused what to download for all these nice new improvements.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that there's no need to update the application.
The update was on YoWindow server side.
Also, this change should improve current weather quality for a small fraction of users. I'd say 2 - 5 percent.

Re: METAR: new stations, better quality
Hi Pasha,
We talked about this a long time ago.
I am glad to see it.
Research stations should not be switched.
Mount Washington station is at the top of the mountain making it the Windiest station in the world.
The closest station to it is down in the valley which is no longer windy!
Alert is the farthest north and reports 6 times a day.
Eureka is the most active station in the North Polar region.
It reports 21 times a day.
Amundsen-Scott is the farthest south and reports a few times a day.
The above need to stay as their own METAR station and should not switch.
