Current conditions

Post by Bashy »

Hi

This might be a little out there, but, I dare say before long you will have many personal weather stations that will be using this, my suggestion is, how about "somehow" being able to incorporate our own current conditions from our own stations as these would be much more accurate as opposed to using the current conditions from a station thats more than likely a good few miles away...

I know its a far out suggestion but it's worth asking :)

I agree completely!

There are some places where no data (and also no realistic forecasts) are available due to accusated microclimas and few population. Here personal weather stations are interesting, along with some privately run forecasts on basis on atmospheric local models such as http://www.wxsim.com

It would be great for yowindow the ability to use those data, I'm sure people that are running these models would agree that their data can be freely used, since they are frequently on the web updated automatically. Here for my location as exemple, but I guess I can speak for a lot of people:

Wxsim output:

http://www.casacota.cat/meteo/plaintext.txt
and
http://www.casacota.cat/meteo/summary.txt

(The formatted output would be: http://www.casacota.cat/teranyina?num=1189364236)

As for live data, there are some standard output formats also on the web, following the exeple above:

Weather Display: http://www.casacota.cat/clientraw.txt feeding this:
http://www.casacota.cat/teranyina?num=1238961745

Virtual Weather Station: http://www.casacota.cat/meteo/data.csv and http://www.casacota.cat/meteo/data2.csv
(used eg. here: http://www.awekas.at/en/instrument.php?id=522)

The exemple is taken for that location:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=ca&g ... =addr&om=1

Far away from the nearest point available presently from yr.no or the NRK, behind some hight mountains and with often very different temperatures, conditions or forecasts, that is, the data usable in yowindow is here completely unusable. This is also true for other areas in that region.

Bashy and casacota, I very like your suggestion.
Personal meteostation support would bring YoWindow to a new level.

At the moment we don't have the time to undertake this challenge.
Probably in several months I will try to add meteostation support for YoWindow.
Sorry guys, not at the moment.

Thank you, anyway, I will write down this idea as a hi-pri.

Could National Weather Service Forecast be possible to integrate into the yowindow.com forecast applet script?

Thanks for your consideration!

At the moment - no, unfortunately.

Current conditions - from the airports.
Forecast - from yr.no.
Get YoWindow weather app for your phone or tablet.

I agree about using the "local PWS" data option. In my case, the airport is on the far west outskirts of town while I'm on the far east outskirts. Only 20 or so miles between us but two different weather worlds with the mountains and a river.
