Landscape basic questions

Hello,
I have installed the YoWindow extension into Chrome on my laptop. I really enjoy the animated gifs landscapes. I see I can add new landscapes...but are these just static photos? One more question: the instructions to add a new landscape via the YoWindow Desktop app... I just have the extension... so I have to install the desktop app?
Anyways, thank you in advance, and I really like the animated landscapes. I see the Village landscape as of 1/15/2014 no longer has the blinky lights on the home.
