First please tell us your location so the season maps can be checked.
Hi,

My location is Assen, the Netherlands.
Lat. 53 and Long. 6.56

I think season map is correct. Checked it and looks oké.
(3.20 spring /6.21 summer / 9.23 autumn / 12.21 winter)

For many days it`s snow covered here.

Hi Oebel,

If your (Assen) season map doesn't look like this: 01.01:winter/02.01:naked/03.20:spring/06.21:summer/09.23:autumn/11.15:naked,
you may not have the latest version of YoWindow (build 429 official, or build 431 Release Cadidate)

For further explanation have a look at: http://yowindow.com/help.html#season_algorithm

If you still have some questions, then please let us know.

Hi Fred,

All is correct and I have build 429 but at this time no snow.
I have had some days with snow in Yowindow, but now it`s gone.
Also we had a White Christmas as you now but Yowindow was without snow.

Strange.

Hi Oebel,

I can understand you being surprised about the landscape not showing snow.
But please read the explanation here: http://yowindow.com/help.html#season_algorithm

Hi Fred,

Best wishes.

I still don`t understand. I read the algorith thing, but still it`s strange. :?
You know that at Christmas time it was cold in Holland (below zero) and there was much snow. Yowindow showed naked landscape, without snow. Temp was far below +5, around zero or below zero.
Now in Holland snow is melted, temp is still near zero or at least below +5. At this moment of writing + 1.3C.
Now last days Yowindow only shows snow landscape. (winter landscape) We don`t have snow at all in the Netherlands.

How to explain this? :?:

Hi Oebel,

Thanks and best wishes to you too.

I can imagine it being somewhat confusing, so I'll try to explain.

Our (Dutch) season map looks like this: 01.01:winter/02.01:naked/03.20:spring/06.21:summer/09.23:autumn/11.15:naked
From the FAQ on YoWindow you can see:
When the temperature less or equal to -5°C (23°F), winter season displayed.
When the temperature is more or equal to +5°C (41°F), YoWindow thinks that all the snow has melted and displays naked season instead of winter.
So, at Christmas time our landscape was naked. It had to be -5°C or less to show the winter landscape, but most of the time it was above -5°C.
Now, today, we have passed the 1st of januari, so YoWindow will show us winter landscape, UNLESS the temperature will be +5°C or higher, then it will show naked again.

Since it is (still) not possible to have a history of weather saved somewhere, it is for YoWindow not possible to 'see' what weather we had for about 2-2,5 hours ago, let alone longer ago, like yesterday or last week. Therefor whether we had snow or not, being it a little or a lot, YoWindow can only look at the present situation, which gives us the temperature as it is, not knowing if there is (still) snow on the ground.
Since it's somewhere between 0°C and +5°C at the moment, it chooses the season map, which gives us: winter.

I hope this clearifies it a little bit for you.
If not, please let me know.

Oebel,

If you input some snow into current snow depth in WD, then that should show up in the xml which will force the snow cover in spite of the temperature.

Hi Jim,

Thanks. I will try that when we have snow again. I must check then my yowindow.xml because last Christmas 2010 I did put in the snow in WD (9 cm) but landscape remained naked.
WD showed snowdepth of 9 cm correct. So I have to check the .xml when there is snow.

Thanks (also Fred), it`s all clear to me now.

Oebel

Dear Par.

I have a prob-

*about to type about how, in spite of it being winter in Cornwall (01.01:winter/03.01:naked/03.20:spring/06.21:summer/09.23:autumn/11.15:naked), YW isn't showing snowy landscape*

*reads "When the temperature less or equal to -5°C (23°F), winter season displayed. When the temperature is more or equal to +5°C (41°F), YoWindow thinks that all the snow has melted and displays naked season instead of winter."

*looks outside*

...-ably amazing little weather-app, don't I? ^-^

lots of love,

Pamela.
