YoWindow for Chrome 0.96

Post by par »

There is nothing special in this release.
But it solves some important problems.

Also we have added many translated strings to make YoWindow available to people who dont speak English.
Thank you for all our translators who have been helping with website and Chrome extension translation.

What's new?

-YoWindow time-zone is automatically adjusted.
This is one of long time YoWindow problems.
http://yowindow.com/help.php#q13
When the time-zone on computer is set wrong, YoWindow displays wrong time.
In addition "weather expired" error was the consequence of this problem, because the time difference to the obersvation time was computed wrong.

Fortunately, now I have managed to solve this problem.
No matter what time-zone is set in Windows, YoWindow will correct the time properly.

Pay attention that YoWindow does not correct minutes or seconds. It applies correction with 30 minute precision.
This is to make sure that Windows clock and YoWindow display the same minutes.

We need to make sure this automated solution is reliable.
Please test this feature by altering the time and time-zone on your computer.

-error fixed: impossible to work with options page if language set in Chrome is not supported by YoWindow extension.
This fix is very important one.
It turned out that people whose language is not supported by extension are not able to work with YoWindow and manage its options.

-turkish letters added

-Seaside: major changes in water algorithm internals, but nothing has changed for the end user.
These changes were required for our next landscape, it is in production now ;)
Please check if the water displayed properly for you.

Download YoWindow for Chrome 0.96

It is VERY VERY important for us to make sure there are no significant errors in YoWindow for Chrome.
Because if we do only one miss the users can downvote YoWindow on Google Chrome Webstore.
And eventually YoWindow will loose its rank and popularity.

I hope you guys will find anything I have missed.

Hi Pasha,

I checked out Seaside on my Win7 for the water. The water looks okay on Win7. Sorry, I did not check on WinXP. I ran into some major issues.

On WinXP, it was 6:45 PM EST on the 23rd when I changed to the time zone next door which would be 5:45 CST. I changed that time to 6:45 CST. Desktop showed as Wednesday the 23rd at 7:45 PM. Widget showed as Wednesday the 23rd at 7:45 PM with Weather Expired. Chrome went back a day and showed as Tuesday the 22nd at 9:15 PM. I corrected the time and then the time zone. Desktop and Widget showed as they should. Chrome was still back a day. By that time, it was 7:00 PM and Chrome was showing 7:30 PM the prior day. I uninstalled Chrome and then reinstalled Chrome. Chrome time was as it should be.

On Win7, without changing time or timezones, I scrolled and randomly selected my locations. My Home Location is showing the correct time. Other locations in my time zone are 1 hour ahead. The time was 7:20 PM EST and other locations that are EST were showing 8:20 PM. I went thru and changed the time zone and the time. Chrome on my Win7 showed the current EST time but only on my Home Location all others were still 1 hour ahead. I changed the time and the time zone back and I posted this. :(

I will test Seaside water along with scrolling and randomly selecting locations on my WinXP. Since I uninstalled and reinstalled, I need to get some locations there to test with.

I wish that I could have told you that everthing was fantastic. Sorry :(

Hi Pasha,

Seaside water looks okay on my WinXP. Scrolling and random selecting locations on my WinXP is not an issue. All locations in the same time zone are the same time.

So Win7 has a problem with locations from the same time zone being 1 hour ahead of the Home Location. WinXP does some weird things with time and date on Chrome when you play games with time zone and time.

That is all that I have found so far.

Hey, Marty!

1. The problem with Chrome and day jump on Win XP.
If you to close and then open Chrome after changing the time zone, will it fix the problem?

2. The problem you have noticed on Win 7.
I was not able to repeat it (I have added several cities in my time-zone).
My time and time-zone on Win 7 was set correctly.
Can you see the problem in the release version of YoWindow for Chrome?
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... okomebpnef

Please give me a list of the locations in your time-zone you are playing with (location/state).

Thanks for such a deep investigation, Marty!

Hi Pasha

Windows XP;

First I have change the timezone.

Yowindows used the day of the desktop. If I change the day yowindow change the day.

I've tested in various countries and cities. The time is displayed correctly. The day is from the desktop

Hi Pasha,

Yesterday I installed .96 over old version .86 (Millie correction). By installing .96 over .86, everything that I posted happened.

Today I completely uninstalled, cleaned my cache, and installed .96 on both WinXP and Win7. Everything seems to be working okay on both systems. I have changed time, changed time back, scrolled, and randomly selected.

As long as you do not install .96 over .86, Chrome works. My concern is, what if someone else installs .96 over .86?

I will keep testing, but it looks like uninstalling, cleaning cache, and reinstalling took care of problems. :good:

Hey, Marty!

It looks to me that the origin of the problem is in parts of old YoWindow left in the browser cache.
In the new version this possibility is excluded.
Besides, it is very unlikely case that a user would be changing time in Windows after installing new version of YoWindow.

So I think it is safe to release the new version.
And I'm going to do it right now.

Thanks!
