Black Screen

Post by dtravelbug »

I upgraded my YoWindow the other day so I could view the other landscapes, and it worked fine for a couple of days, but today all I get is a black screen. I exited, shut down and restarted, and then after reading a previous post I downgraded my version of Flash (and restarted the computer), but alas, I still just have a black screen (without any menu bar even) where my beautiful YoWindow view used to be. Please help. Thanks!

Welcome to the ever expanding club of disgruntled users...

What version and OS (operating system) are you on..?

Plenty of workarounds in the 'do not upgrade' thread...

Hello! Thanks, but I don't see the "do not upgrade" thread. ?
I've got Windows 8.1.
I reverted to Flash 19, but now I see somehow it's back at version 20. ARGH. I had checked the box to upgrade manually in the future, so I'm not sure why it's back. Do you know how to undo it and make it stick with the previous version? This is getting outside of my skill set. Many thanks for your help!

For now, I am uninstalling Microsoft update KB3132372 on my Win8.1 and Win10.
That update is installing the bad Adobe Flash Player.
When you uninstall it, you go back to your last working flash player.

Oh my stars. Today it said "weather expired," so I exited and re-opened it and GUESS WHAT, now it's a black screen again. ::facepalm:: I had to uninstall the update again (but how did it re-update itself anyhow???) and reboot again, and now it's back, but I have a feeling now I'm going to have to keep doing that. Grr.

It tells you that Adobe and Microsoft are working on the new flash player and new update.
We have just gone thru the longest holiday weekends of the year(s).
People are still traveling on Monday.
So I do not expect anything until Tuesday or later.

I have already had to uninstall that update 4 times.
Each day your PC is checking for updates.
The update that we have uninstalled is put back into the queue to be updated.
Hopefully by Tuesday, Microsoft and Adobe have this straightened out.

Sorry for you having to uninstall a few extra times.
If you google on that update or the flash player in question,
you will find a lot of websites are having the same problem.
Some are black screens and some are white screens.
They are all being told the same thing.
Uninstall the update.

Unfortunately on Windows 8 and 10, your pc automatically updates every day, you have no option to choose what updates to install. So when you uninstall the bad update, next time you boot up your pc it is automatically updated again. i uninstalled it about 3 or 4 times as countryroads did, and finally gave up. That update takes Flashplayer to version 20.0.0.267 which is the dud. None of the workarounds worked for me, so I'm just waiting for adobe to release 20.0.0.270 for Windows 8 and 10. XPFor now I'm using another screensaver (NOT happy). They have released that version of Flash for XP and 7, and hopefully soon for 8 and 10. And from wht I've read, Yowindows is one of many applications that use Flash that have been affected in this way (black screen)....lots of unhappy devs out there right now.

Hi Rose:
Adobe has already released the stable version of FPAX 20.0.0.270. I do not know what updates consist in Windows 8 and 10 OS but try as follows: Manually uninstall FP 20.0.0.267, next manually install FP 20.0.0.270 from original adobe site. I think the new FP version will not allow to install the previous version automatically. I am sure it will help and you see YoWindow again.

You might also wanna try disabling the windows update service...

Go to start...open...then type in services.msc and hit the enter key...

Find the windows update service...stop it and set it to off or manuel...

Confirm by clicking on apply and exit the services page...

Windows will now stop looking for updates...

Don't forget to restart the service and set it to automatically when

a permanent fix is issued...

Hope this helps...
